In high summer the ditch becomes dense with life.
The walls contain a thousand greens, the floor
reflects and absorbs the sky. Colours on and under
the water are completely unpredictable.
I saw water voles, a grass snake, six types of dragonfly,
dozens of spiders, flies, bees, ducks, fry, three
types of water snail...almost as many animals as
colours.

A photograph taken at the time of painting the
studies to
the left. Some colours match, but others
are very different.
One of the many reasons for not relying on a
machine!
The machine image is full of very useful
information,
but can only give a small account of what
is available to
the human eye.
